Our Approach to Fees
At Velvet Law, we are committed to providing clear and transparent information about our fees and the costs that may arise during the course of your matter.
We believe that clients should be able to make informed decisions regarding legal costs and we will always seek to keep you updated throughout your matter.
Hourly Rates
Many matters are charged on the basis of the time spent by the lawyers working on your case. Our hourly rates vary depending upon the complexity, urgency and specialist nature of the work involved.
Our current guideline hourly rates are:
| Fee Earner | Hourly Rate |
| Partners | £450 – £650 |
| Associates / Consultants | £325 – £425 |
| Trainee Solicitors / Paralegals | £200 – £275 |
All rates are exclusive of VAT, which will be charged at the prevailing rate where applicable.
The hourly rates applicable to your matter will be confirmed in your engagement documentation.
Fixed Fees and Fee Caps
Where appropriate, we may be able to offer:
- Fixed fee arrangements;
- Capped fee arrangements;
- Staged fee arrangements; or
- Retainer arrangements for ongoing legal support.
The availability of these options will depend on the nature and complexity of the work involved.
Cost Estimates
Where work is undertaken on an hourly-rate basis, we will provide an estimate of the likely fees at the outset wherever possible.
As a matter progresses, circumstances may change. If we believe that our original estimate is likely to be exceeded, we will notify you promptly and discuss the available options before incurring significant additional costs.
Disbursements
Disbursements are costs payable to third parties in connection with your matter. Examples may include:
- Court fees;
- Land Registry fees;
- Search fees;
- Barristers’ fees;
- Expert witness fees;
- Companies House fees;
- Translation services; and
- Courier or process server fees.
Where possible, we will provide an estimate of anticipated disbursements at the beginning of your matter.
VAT
Unless otherwise stated, our fees and disbursements are quoted exclusive of VAT. VAT will be charged at the prevailing rate where applicable.
